Seven years and counting

February 2, 2006 Tom and I, our two cats and a Toyota pickup stuff to the brim pulled in to Merida, well moved to Merida.

We had old off our stuff in the States, packed what we could in to the pickup and hit the road, we took 5 days to get here.  The cats were not happy. Neither was I.  I had had rotator cuff surgery and was still in cast and sling, unable to help drive, and all around miserable and uncomfortable; add to that the truck was overheating and we couldn’t use the a/c so had to  have the windows open the whole way, noisy, windy, hot, uncomfortable; but when I saw the signs as we entered Merida that all melted away.

There’s a lot more to say about the transitions, but well today is a busy busy day so it will have to wait!

I still can’t believe it’s been 7 years!

  1. Thanks Eric, and congrats to you and Maty.

ah, the spam fleas – I have had people complain, whine, and whingE on about having to do the little 'enter these characters' thing to post a comment, so this is the price, SPAM!

  2. Indeed I do remember your counsel about the house, although your arguments were just the reasoning, in this case was wrong. we are not bothered by the ADO traffic at all. but we probably should have selected a bit further Norte. who knew Tom would have such a struggle with the language and transitions.

Thank you for your kind words, it means alot! it has been a real pleasure getting to know you.

  3. oh now, you know it's all part of why you like coming here, the busy busy social scene. besides we love seeing you to.

  4. we've been having some pretty good times haven't we!

  5. mil gracias, y igualmente mi amiga!

  6. well at least time flies when you are busy, and we do stay pretty busy. A

  7. funny how some things pass so quickly and others seem to drag on,, this has been super fast, I just can't believe we've been here this long.

  8. i don't know too many that have packed up and left, but quite a few who split time. I think we may now be in for the long haul, although you know what they say about the 'seven year itch'

    Feliz aniversario Debi and Tom,
I remember the day i meet you and you asked for my advise on the house you wanted to buy.
You were pioneers in your area, i remember i said it seem to far from where the rest of the foreigners were living but the house and the price was right.
I can't beleive it has been 7 years already, wow!
You have been good friends and good Meridanos. casi ya Yucatecos!
    Un abrazo a ti y a Tom.

  13. Kevin says:

What was that line in the Jack Nicholson movie “You make me want to be a better person?” You and Tom, “make me love coming to Merida.” If Tom would just stop inviting me to the monthly poker group where I always lose big, then life would be perfect in Merida. (Of course, I could always decline the invite but I'm a glutton for punishment.) xxoo Kevin

  14. Happy anniversary. It's good to live in Mexico.

Now if you can just get your visas completed – Like you – we are waiting….

  19. Marc Olson says:

It's amazing how foreigners come and go around here. You get to know people, and quite suddenly they have moved on.

You and Tom are “stayers,” and I'm happy about that.
