Mariposa goes to Town!

Many of you know we are fostering Mariposa and hoping to find her a forever home, sooner rather than later.   I have been making small step attempts at socializing, training, and getting her ‘out there’ so that people can see her, meet her.

So today we went walking along Paseo de Montejo, for those of you not familiar, Paseo de Montejo is a wide boulevard with wide tree covered sidewalks and guarded by huge mansions.  Lots of gringos go walking there in the mornings.  Tom had an 8am appointment at The Remate which is the beginning of the Paseo.  So Mari and I caught a ride with him.

Good Grief – what possesses people to walk their dogs on this avenue?  We were lunged at, charged at, and barked at by every dog that we passed.  Mari and I are accustomed to walking in our hood, there are a few dogs that bark and jump out at us, but only a few.

We walked up to the big glorietta, then back to Tom’s appointment location (about an hour) thinking we’d catch a ride back with him.  No such luck, he was committed for another, come to find out 2+ hours.  So we decided to walk home.  Ouf, the crowds, the traffic, it was really stressful for Mariposa, but she did a great job. We really zigzagged so as to avoid the most congested streets and made it home in about an hour.   Poor girl, she was SO happy to get home.

just look at that tongue –

we no more than got in the door and she ran as fast as she could to her water bowl – I filled it with fresh cool water and she collapsed

you almost can’t see, but after a bit I looked out and she is laying there with her feet in the bowl!

So if any of you have been thinking it is time for a furry friend, THIS IS YOUR GIRL!

Nice looking dog, thank you for taking care of the animal, I wish we were closer, we are looking for another ranch doggie!

Your description of the behaviors of passing dogs made me laugh with empathy; as I deal with ranch dogs on open properties that have the same ‘claim’ to territorial space and quirky social behavior. Eek it’s disconcerting, like a dog off-leash with an owner that swears he’s friendly–
She surely is a sweetie & I hope she finds her forever home soon.
