This is the waiting room for the AMTRAK station in Alexandria VA, I really loved it.
The station is right across from the Masonic Temple. I can remember this from as far back as I can remember, having grown up in Alexandria.
Traveling on the AMTRAK was fabulous. The train we were on had electrical outlets, and wifi. There was a car with snacks, but we heard they were pretty pricey, besides we came prepared with a sack full of leftover weekend goodies. There are bathrooms on board but I would suggest avoiding them at all costs. The seats were comfy, and reclined, but only a little. We had a 4 1/2 trip so really it was fine.
Upon arrival at Wilson NC we had a 45 minute ride back to my brothers in Greenville. We stayed there only long enough to use his bathroom, stretch our legs, grab one of his trucks and headed off for the Outer Bank, aka OBX.
Stop 2 on our trip was to be with friends Pam and Gary. Pam and Gary have had their home on the OBX for a while, but only recently has it gone from vacation home to full time home. We have known Pam and Gary since about 1970 or 71. They stood with us when Tom and I got married. And again, even though its been a long time since we’ve seen, or done more than email, it is as if time just falls away in comfort.
We had a great time, again eating, drinking, and reminiscing. We also got in a few garden tours, as well as a lighthouse, and a trip to the beach.
A great 2nd stop on the trip
