back in Puerto Vallarta

Quite a few months ago we made plans to visit Puerto Vallarta (PVR), among other places. An opportunity came up with a house sitter for the entire month of February and in to the first week of March.

We have friends in Puerto Vallarta with whom we intended to visit, well, had friends. We made our travel arrangements a while back. In fact in August whilst in Colorado we met up with longtime friends (of 30years) Gene, and Jim, two separate friends, made plans for our visit with both of them here in Puerto Vallarta.

Gene has been living in Puerto Vallarta since he retired, and prior to that he vacationed here regularly. In fact our very first visit to PVR was with Gene and a group of friends, we think about 1979. Gene and some buddies even had a condo at Playa Gemelos for quite a long time. Unfortunately Gene died suddenly, at Thanksgiving. It was, and still is quite a shock to us all.

We also had made plans with Jim who has been coming and staying several months per year in Puerto Vallarta for more than 50 years. We have visited with Jim several times whist he was here in PVR. A few days shy of a week before our departure we got a call from Jim. He was going back home to Colorado, even though he still had another month or so planned for PVR. He had been robbed, on the street, just outside his rental. He was really shaken up by the event. Jim is in his 70's, has just recently had knee replacement surgery, and has some mobility issues, and got pushed around a bit so his confidence took a serious dive from this event.

So Tom and I have 9 days in PVR, on our own, we are exploring options for adventures we've not tried before due to being with friends.

We did take time yesterday to hook up with former Merida acquaintances who I had introduced via internet with Gene, and as it turned out they had hit it off and visited with some sort of regularly. So we got together yesterday witn Bruce and Mary at 5pm at the Blue Chairs, where Gene went every afternoon to have a margarita and watch the sunset. We talked about Gene, and toasted him. It was nice, and sad.

so, as stated, we are here, on our own, we can't remember being here just the two of us before, other than a few days, we were always hooking up here with friends!

We're looking in to whale watching, zip lining, horseback riding, gads, so many things to do. For sure the botanic garden, can't be in PVR and not go to the botanic garden. so stay tuned fir the adventure!

About Debi in Merida

Thanks, Debi, to you and Tom for giving us the rich background of Gene’s life. We wished we had met him sooner.

And on a lighter note, thanks for your great scuba diving stories. Perhaps they will, someday, inspire us to get up the gumption to actually try it.

    Cheers!

My husband and I will be moving to Merida in August after 30 years of traveling the world with Keith’s job. We are looking forward to th eadventure, a little nervous as we will be embarking on a house renovation and Langauge skills are not as yet in place. I will be following your blog and enjoy hearing about life in Mexico.
