Well we finally made it to Richmond Virginia. This is where we plan to move once we sell our home in Merida (

Back in September we were able to share a container with friends who were coming NOB. So of course we took advantage of the opportunity and sent most of our 'stuff' up with theirs. Unfortunately our stuff ended up in our friends dining room, so it was high time to get up here and put it in a storage unit.

So anyway, here we are. We like Richmond, it holds a lot of interest. We, aka Tom, did a lot of research on housing whilst still in Merida so we came with a list. All that research was for naught. Apparently Zillow, a major housing search engine experienced a melt down and properties that had been sold or listed over the past five years were showing up as available. AAAARRRRRRRRRGGGGHHHHHH!

Well all was not for naught, we drove through lots of areas, identified areas of extreme interest, and then contacted an Agent friend of friends.

We had hoped to rent, but three large dogs seems to be a deal breaker.

We've not done any fun touristy things, guess we'll save them for later. Part of the reason is that Tom and I both came down with horrible cold/ flu.

On our last plane here there was a child with a serious cold, flu, upper respiratory infection spewing germs everywhere….we both got them. So after day 3 or 4 here we've been slightly miserable house guests, hacking, snorting, dripping, blowing, coughing.

We've done neighborhood drivebys, eaten out, and played cards, all fun stuff, but I think we had all hoped for more. Add to that we show up on top of the coldest winter that Richmond can remember in a lot of years, and well, there you have it.

Thank goodness we don't seem to have infected our lovely hosts.

This weekend we have big plans, a dinner out with other friends one evening, and The 9th Annual Virginia Wine Expo on another, oh boy!

well, time to put my face over a pan of hot water and then do a sinus irrigation, sometimes travel is just waaay to fun!

more later…

Congratulations! You are back in the “Homeland”. I am very sorry to hear about your cold or flu, the same way counts for the very hard winter. This must be a big shocker since you did not experience this for pretty long time! Let us know how things keep continuing!
    Take good care of yourself!

I contracted a bout of the flu that is going around just before I left on my last trip to Oregon in November. When I visited friends in Washington, I spent the two days in bed. That sounds far more exciting than it was.

Good luck on the house search. I decided to flog your house on Mexpatriate today.

Be sure to check out the fan area of Richmond and have a meal at Joe’s restaurant very popular but hard to park and it is in the fan district we live in North Carolina and every time we go near Richmond we stop in hope you enjoy?

    • we are actually staying with our friends, in ‘The Fan’. it really is a lovely area. unfortunately out of our price range. we have done quite a bit of mighty fine eatin, mostly asian cuisines, we really miss those in Merida. I’ll inquire about ‘Joes’. Thanks for the tip.
