first days

we arrived at the new house about 3:30pm, on Monday, 30 May. Here it is Friday morning, and we've accomplished quite a bit. Paid the taxes, Tom registered with the VA here, we're learning our way around, we've found several very good theift stores, I have a great supermarket quite close by, and there is a laundry 3 blocks away.

The kitchen is outfitted and I made a big pot of veggie bean soup in my shiny new pressure cooker.

We are getting things unpacked and identifying ways to make the best use of the small space.

The last of our stuff from the storage unit comes today. I've made two trips and brought back 2 carloads full, we are having a neighborhood guy go today and bring the rest.

Internet should be installed this morning.

The girls are enjoying their new back yard, as am I, so many birds, Some memory has kicked in and I am identifying quite a few of them. I found some binoculars, and a bird book yesterday so that should get easier.

The new priority is getting a mattress, we have two airmattresses, but I want a bed, or my hammock, I'd be really happy to get my hammock hung.

We've met some of the neighbors. I'm anxious to get started on some gardening and setting up a compost area. We're buying some small outdoor chairs and tables and will use them in the dinng room until we find what we want.

Tom's birthday was yesterday and we went out to dinner at a local steak restaurant, although I had haddock and it was fabulous. Tom was thrilled, they had a 20oz cowboy cut steak.

Greek festival this weekend, and lots of activities, I've got to figure out how all the event info is disseminated. poco a poco.

Sometime when you’re free and you want an expensive meal his call Joe’s and it’s in the fan district near Broad Street in Richmond I’m not sure of the exact street so little hard to park but every time we go to Richmond from North Carolina where we live we always go there is plenty to eat at a reasonable price but the parking is a little bit hard to have to park on the street there’s no parking lot and it’s in the fan district

  4. Glad to hear you finished the journey and all is well. The girls look very content in their new space, and sounds like you two are settling in also. Much to be thankful about.

From the photo I can see the wheels turning in the girls heads … “The pool needs to go there, banana trees and coconut palms over here … but wait, where are all the iguanas? Something is different but I can’t put my paw on it.”

  6. Congratulations! You are all there in one piece and now it’s time for the fun to begin.
The photo of the girls is priceless.
